Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain, usually after eating a meal
  2. abdominal or stomach tenderness
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. bleeding gums
  5. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  6. bloating
  7. blood in the urine
  8. bloody nose
  9. bloody stools
  10. blurred or loss of vision
  11. body aches or pain
  12. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  13. chest pain or discomfort
  14. clay-colored stools
  15. cold sweats
  16. confusion about identity, place, and time
  17. congestion
  18. constipation
  19. cough
  20. coughing up blood
  21. cracks in the skin
  22. crying
  23. darkened urine
  24. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  25. decreased urine output
  26. depersonalization
  27. diarrhea
  28. difficulty with breathing or swallowing
  29. dilated neck veins
  30. disturbed color perception
  31. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  32. double vision
  33. dry mouth
  34. dryness or soreness of the throat
  35. dysphoria
  36. euphoria
  37. extreme fatigue
  38. fast, pounding, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  39. fever or chills
  40. flushing or redness of the skin
  41. fruit-like breath odor
  42. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  43. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  44. hair loss
  45. halos around lights
  46. headaches
  47. heavier menstrual periods
  48. hives or welts
  49. hoarseness
  50. increased hunger
  51. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  52. increased thirst
  53. increased urination
  54. indigestion
  55. irregular breathing
  56. irregular heartbeat
  57. itching
  58. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  59. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  60. loss of appetite
  61. loss of heat from the body
  62. loss of strength or energy
  63. lower back or side pain
  64. mental depression
  65. mimicry of speech or movements
  66. muscle pain or weakness
  67. mutism
  68. nausea or vomiting
  69. negativism
  70. night blindness
  71. noisy breathing
  72. overbright appearance of lights
  73. painful or difficult urination
  74. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  75. paleness or cold feeling in the fingertips and toes
  76. paranoia
  77. peculiar postures or movements, mannerisms or grimacing
  78. pinpoint red or purple spots on the skin
  79. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  80. quick to react or overreact emotionally
  81. rapidly changing moods
  82. rectal bleeding
  83. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  84. red, irritated eyes
  85. red, swollen skin
  86. reddening of the skin, especially around the ears
  87. runny nose
  88. scaly skin
  89. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  90. severe sleepiness
  91. severe sunburn
  92. short-term memory loss
  93. shortness of breath
  94. skin irritation or rash, including rash that looks like psoriasis
  95. sleeplessness
  96. sore throat
  97. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  98. sugar in the urine
  99. sweating
  100. swelling of the eyes, face, or inside of the nose
  101. swelling of the fingers, feet, or lower legs
  102. tender, swollen, or painful glands in the neck
  103. tenderness of salivary glands
  104. tenderness, burning, or peeling of the skin
  105. thickening of bronchial secretions
  106. tightness in the chest
  107. tingling or pain in the fingers or toes when exposed to cold
  108. trouble with sleeping
  109. trouble with swallowing
  110. troubled breathing
  111. tunnel vision
  112. unable to sleep
  113. unpleasant breath odor
  114. unusual bleeding or bruising
  115. unusual tiredness or weakness
  116. unusual weight loss
  117. unusually warm skin
  118. voice changes
  119. vomiting of blood
  120. weight gain
  121. wheezing
  122. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. decreased urination
  3. fast, slow, or shallow breathing
  4. gas
  5. heartburn
  6. increase in heart rate
  7. increased sweating
  8. indigestion
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. low blood pressure
  11. muscle cramps
  12. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  13. rapid breathing
  14. seizures
  15. sunken eyes
  16. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  17. unusual paleness
  18. weakness and heaviness of the legs
  19. wrinkled skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. dry eyes
  3. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  4. inability to have or keep an erection
  5. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  6. muscle spasm
  7. pain of the penis on erection
  8. pain or discomfort in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
  9. restlessness
  10. sensation of spinning
  11. stomach cramps
  12. thinning of the hair
  13. vivid dreams
