Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blistering, peeling, or reddening of the skin
  2. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  3. indigestion
  4. loss of appetite
  5. nausea
  6. stomach bloating, cramping, pain, tenderness, or upset
  7. upper abdominal or stomach pain
  8. vomiting
  9. weight loss

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bladder pain
  3. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. bloody stools
  6. chest pain
  7. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  8. difficulty with moving
  9. difficulty with swallowing
  10. frequent urge to urinate
  11. full or bloated feeling
  12. heartburn
  13. lower back or side pain
  14. muscle pain or stiffness
  15. pain in the joints
  16. pain or burning in the throat
  17. pressure in the stomach
  18. rapid weight gain
  19. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
  20. stomach discomfort or swelling
  21. tingling of the hands or feet
  22. trouble breathing
  23. unusual weight gain or loss
  24. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Incidence not known

  1. Chills
  2. confusion
  3. cough
  4. drowsiness
  5. dry mouth
  6. fever
  7. mood or mental changes
  8. muscle cramps, spasms (tetany), or twitching
  9. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  10. seizures
  11. sore throat
  12. stomach cramps
  13. swollen glands
  14. trembling
  15. unusual bleeding or bruising
  16. unusual tiredness or weakness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. diarrhea

Less common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. change in taste
  3. cough producing mucus
  4. difficulty having a bowel movement
  5. ear congestion
  6. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  7. fever
  8. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  9. loss of taste
  10. loss of voice
  11. loss or thinning of the hair
  12. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  13. passing gas
  14. severe sunburn
  15. sneezing
  16. stuffy or runny nose

Incidence not known

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. inability to have or keep an erection
  3. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
