Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. burning or stinging of the skin
  3. chills
  4. cough producing mucus
  5. coughing
  6. difficulty with breathing
  7. dizziness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  8. ear congestion
  9. headache
  10. loss of voice
  11. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  12. painful blisters on the trunk of the body
  13. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  14. sneezing
  15. sore throat
  16. stuffy or runny nose
  17. tightness of the chest
  18. troubled breathing
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain or tenderness
  2. arm, back, or jaw pain
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. blood in the urine
  5. blurred or double vision
  6. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  7. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  8. burning, itching, and pain in the hairy areas, pus at the root of the hair
  9. change in consciousness
  10. chest pain, discomfort, or heaviness
  11. choking
  12. clay-colored stools
  13. cold, clammy skin
  14. confusion
  15. convulsions
  16. dark-colored urine
  17. diarrhea
  18. dilated neck veins
  19. discharge or excessive tearing
  20. dizziness
  21. drowsiness
  22. earache
  23. extreme fatigue
  24. eye pain
  25. fast, weak pulse
  26. fever
  27. frequent urge to urinate
  28. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  29. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  30. heavy jaw feeling
  31. inability to speak
  32. increased frequency of urination
  33. irregular breathing
  34. itching or rash
  35. joint pain
  36. light-colored stools
  37. lightheadedness
  38. loosening of a tooth
  39. loss of appetite
  40. loss of bladder control
  41. loss of taste
  42. lumps in the tongue
  43. muscle aches, pains, or stiffness
  44. muscle cramps or spasms
  45. nausea or vomiting
  46. nervousness
  47. noisy breathing
  48. pain or burning during urination
  49. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  50. pain, swelling, or numbness in the mouth or jaw
  51. pale skin
  52. pounding in the ears
  53. redness or swelling in the ear
  54. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  55. sensitivity of the eye to light
  56. severe abdominal or stomach cramps and pain
  57. severe or sudden headache
  58. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  59. shivering
  60. skin lumps
  61. slow, fast, or irregular heartbeat
  62. slurred speech
  63. spread of cancer to the liver
  64. stiff neck or back
  65. stomach lumps
  66. stomach pain, continuing
  67. sudden loss of consciousness
  68. sweating
  69. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  70. swollen glands
  71. tearing
  72. temporary blindness
  73. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  74. trouble sleeping
  75. troubled breathing with exertion
  76. unable to speak
  77. unpleasant breath odor
  78. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  79. unusual bleeding or bruising
  80. vomiting of blood
  81. warts on the genital area
  82. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  83. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
  84. weakness on one side of the body, sudden and severe
  85. weight gain
  86. weight loss
  87. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. cough
  3. muscle pain
  4. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  5. red, irritated eyes
  6. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. increased or decreased appetite
  4. swelling or redness in the joints

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. blistering, crusting, irritation, or reddening of the skin
  4. canker sores
  5. discouragement
  6. feeling sad or empty
  7. flushing or redness of the skin
  8. heartburn
  9. indigestion
  10. irritability
  11. loss of interest or pleasure
  12. redistribution or accumulation of body fat
  13. skin rash, encrusted, scaly, and oozing
  14. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
  15. stomach discomfort or upset
  16. tiredness
  17. trouble in concentrating
  18. unusually warm skin
