Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. blurred vision
  3. confusion
  4. difficult or trouble breathing
  5. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  6. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  7. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  8. sweating
  9. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Decreased awareness or responsiveness
  2. not breathing

Rare

  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. blurred vision
  4. change in consciousness
  5. cough or hoarseness
  6. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  7. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  8. dizziness
  9. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  10. false beliefs that cannot be changed by facts
  11. fever or chills
  12. frequent urge to urinate
  13. headache
  14. loss of consciousness
  15. lower back or side pain
  16. nervousness
  17. numbness of feet, hands and around mouth
  18. painful or difficult urination
  19. poor insight and judgement
  20. pounding in the ears
  21. problems with memory or speech
  22. problems with movement, walking, or speech
  23. seizures
  24. slow or fast heartbeat
  25. trouble thinking and planning
  26. vomiting

Incidence not known

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. chest pain or discomfort
  4. dark urine
  5. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  6. high fever
  7. light-colored stools
  8. loss of bladder control
  9. loss of memory
  10. paralysis
  11. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  12. sever muscle stiffness
  13. stomach pain or bloating
  14. sudden onset of severe breathing difficulty
  15. unusual bleeding or bruising
  16. unusually pale skin
  17. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Agitation
  2. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  3. confusion
  4. excitement
  5. irritability
  6. loss of strength or energy
  7. muscle pain or weakness
  8. restlessness
  9. shakiness and unsteady walk
  10. slurred speech
  11. talkativeness
  12. trouble speaking
  13. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  14. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  15. unusual weak feeling

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:
