Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Fever more than 99.5 degrees F
  2. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  3. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. chills
  3. congestion
  4. cough
  5. difficulty with breathing or swallowing
  6. dryness or soreness of the throat
  7. ear congestion
  8. headache
  9. hives
  10. hoarseness
  11. itching, especially of the feet or hands
  12. loss of voice
  13. nasal congestion
  14. reddening of the skin, especially around the ears
  15. runny nose
  16. shortness of breath
  17. sneezing
  18. sore throat
  19. swelling of the eyes, face, or inside of the nose
  20. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  21. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  22. tightness in the chest
  23. unusual tiredness or weakness (sudden and severe)
  24. voice changes
  25. wheezing

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. agitation
  3. back pain
  4. black, tarry stools
  5. bleeding gums
  6. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  7. blood in the urine or stools
  8. blurred vision
  9. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  10. clay-colored stools
  11. coma
  12. confusion
  13. dark urine
  14. diarrhea
  15. difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels
  16. difficulty with walking
  17. dizziness
  18. drowsiness
  19. fainting
  20. fast heartbeat
  21. feeling of discomfort
  22. feeling sad or depressed
  23. flu-like symptoms
  24. forgetful
  25. hallucinations
  26. inability to move the arms and legs
  27. increased sweating
  28. inflammation of the joints
  29. joint or muscle pain
  30. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  31. loss of appetite
  32. muscle aches or cramps
  33. nausea
  34. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  35. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  36. rash
  37. red, irritated eyes
  38. seizures
  39. sensation of pins and needles
  40. shakiness and unsteady walk
  41. slurred speech
  42. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  43. stabbing pain
  44. stiff neck
  45. sudden numbness and weakness in the arms and legs
  46. swollen lymph glands
  47. unpleasant breath odor
  48. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  49. unusual bleeding or bruising
  50. vomiting of blood
  51. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Pain, redness, swelling, or lumps at the injection site
  2. weight loss

Less common

  1. Arm pain
  2. bleeding between periods
  3. change in the amount of bleeding during periods
  4. change in the pattern of monthly periods
  5. lack or loss of strength
  6. tenderness or warmth at the injection site
  7. unusual stopping of menstrual bleeding

Rare

  1. Change in color vision
  2. change in taste
  3. collection of blood under the skin
  4. deep, dark purple bruise
  5. difficulty seeing at night
  6. difficulty with moving
  7. dizziness or lightheadedness
  8. excessive muscle tone
  9. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  10. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight
  11. loss of taste
  12. muscle tension or tightness
  13. sensation of spinning
  14. sleeplessness
  15. trouble with sleeping
  16. unable to sleep
  17. welts

Incidence not known

  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  2. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
