Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Diarrhea
  2. loss of appetite
  3. vomiting

Less common

  1. Earache
  2. redness or swelling in the ear

Rare

  1. Chest pain
  2. chills
  3. cough
  4. fever over 102 degrees F (39 degrees C)
  5. lack or loss of strength
  6. seizures
  7. sneezing
  8. sore throat
  9. tightness in the chest
  10. troubled breathing

Incidence not known

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. bluish lips or skin
  3. dizziness
  4. fast heartbeat
  5. hives or welts, skin rash
  6. itching (especially of the feet or hands)
  7. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  8. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. rapid weight gain
  10. reddening of the skin (especially around the ears)
  11. swelling of the eyes, face, or inside of the nose
  12. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  13. tingling of the hands or feet
  14. unusual tiredness or weakness (sudden and severe)
  15. unusual weight gain or loss

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Fever less than 102 degrees F (39 degrees C)
  2. irritability
  3. redness, pain, swelling, tenderness, or warm feeling at the injection site
  4. reduced physical activity
  5. restlessness
  6. sleepiness

Less common

  1. Prolonged crying lasting more than 4 hours
  2. unusual high-pitched crying

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
