Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. constipation
  4. depression
  5. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  6. dry skin and hair
  7. feeling cold
  8. frequent urge to urinate
  9. hair loss
  10. hoarseness or husky voice
  11. loss of appetite
  12. lower back or side pain
  13. muscle cramps and stiffness
  14. pale skin
  15. slow heartbeat
  16. sore tongue
  17. trouble breathing
  18. unusual bleeding or bruising
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness
  20. weight gain

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. chest pain or tightness
  3. chills
  4. coma
  5. confusion
  6. cough
  7. cough producing mucus
  8. decreased urine output
  9. diarrhea
  10. dizziness
  11. fever
  12. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  13. headache
  14. hostility
  15. irritability
  16. lethargy
  17. muscle twitching
  18. nausea
  19. nervousness
  20. rapid weight gain
  21. seizures
  22. sensitivity to heat
  23. stomach cramps, tenderness, or pain
  24. stupor
  25. sweating
  26. swelling of the face, feet, lower legs, ankles, or hands
  27. thickening of bronchial secretions
  28. trouble sleeping
  29. watery or bloody diarrhea
  30. weight loss


  1. Anxiety
  2. back or leg pain
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. bleeding gums
  5. bloating
  6. blood in the stools
  7. blue or pale skin
  8. blurred vision
  9. burning, tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  10. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  11. change in vision
  12. chest pain, possibly moving to the left arm, neck, or shoulder
  13. dark urine
  14. darkening of the skin
  15. drowsiness
  16. dry mouth
  17. eye pain
  18. fainting
  19. fast heartbeat
  20. general body swelling
  21. inability to move the arms and legs
  22. indigestion
  23. joint pain
  24. light-colored stools
  25. lightheadedness
  26. loss of consciousness
  27. loss of strength or energy
  28. muscle aches, pain, tenderness, or weakness
  29. nosebleeds
  30. numbness or tingling in the fingers, face, or feet
  31. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  32. partial or slight paralysis
  33. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  34. rapid, shallow breathing
  35. redness of the eye
  36. sensation of pins and needles
  37. sensitivity of the eye to light
  38. severe headache
  39. skin rash, redness, soreness, or itching
  40. sores, welting, or blisters
  41. stabbing pain
  42. stiff neck or back
  43. stomach discomfort or upset
  44. sudden numbness and weakness in the arms and legs
  45. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  46. tearing
  47. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  48. vomiting
  49. yellow eyes and skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. cracks in the skin
  3. flushed, dry skin
  4. fruit-like breath odor
  5. increased hunger
  6. increased thirst
  7. increased urination
  8. loss of heat from the body
  9. red irritated eyes
  10. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  11. red, swollen skin
  12. scaly skin
  13. sore throat
  14. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.
