Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bone pain
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. fever
  6. lower back or side pain
  7. painful or difficult urination
  8. pale skin
  9. sore throat
  10. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Fever with or without chills
  2. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  3. hoarseness

Incidence not known

  1. Anxiety
  2. bleeding gums
  3. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. blurred vision
  6. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  7. clay-colored stools
  8. confusion
  9. dark urine
  10. decreased urination
  11. dilated neck veins
  12. dizziness or lightheadedness
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. drowsiness
  15. dry mouth
  16. fainting
  17. fast or irregular heartbeat
  18. headache
  19. hives, itching, skin rash
  20. increase in heart rate
  21. increased sweating
  22. irregular breathing
  23. irritation
  24. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  25. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  26. loss of appetite
  27. muscle tremors
  28. nausea
  29. nervousness
  30. painful knees and ankles
  31. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  32. pounding in the ears
  33. raised red swellings on the skin, the buttocks, legs, or ankles
  34. rapid weight gain
  35. rapid, deep or shallow breathing
  36. redness of the skin
  37. restlessness
  38. seizures
  39. severe nausea or vomiting
  40. slow heartbeat
  41. sneezing
  42. spots on your skin resembling a blister or pimple
  43. stomach pain or cramps
  44. sudden trouble breathing
  45. sugar in the urine
  46. sunken eyes
  47. sweating
  48. swelling of the eyelids, around the eyes, face, lips, hands, or feet
  49. thirst
  50. tingling of the hands or feet
  51. trouble with balance
  52. trouble breathing or swallowing
  53. unpleasant breath odor
  54. unusual weight gain or loss
  55. vision changes
  56. vomiting of blood
  57. weight gain
  58. wrinkled skin
  59. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty with moving
  2. muscle pain or stiffness
  3. reddish or brown discoloration of the urine
  4. stomach discomfort

Less common

  1. Back pain
  2. belching
  3. diarrhea
  4. heartburn
  5. increased or decreased appetite
  6. indigestion
  7. pain in the arms or legs
  8. stomach upset

Incidence not known

  1. Bloody nose
  2. clenching, gnashing, or grinding teeth
  3. constipation
  4. coughing or spitting up blood
  5. depression
  6. difficulty opening the mouth
  7. difficulty with speaking
  8. drooling
  9. impaired psychomotor skills
  10. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  11. lockjaw
  12. loss of balance control
  13. muscle spasm, especially of the neck and back
  14. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  15. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  16. severe sunburn
  17. shuffling walk
  18. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  19. stiffness of the limbs
  20. stomach bloating, burning, cramping, or pain
  21. twisting movements of the body
  22. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back
