Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

Symptoms of too much medicine being absorbed into the body

  1. Clumsiness or unsteadiness
  2. confusion
  3. constipation, full feeling, passing gas, or stomach cramps or pain
  4. fast or irregular heartbeat
  5. convulsions (seizures)
  6. fever
  7. flushing or redness of face
  8. hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
  9. passing urine less often
  10. skin rash
  11. slurred speech
  12. swollen stomach (in infants)
  13. thirst or dryness of mouth
  14. unusual behavior, such as disorientation to time or place, failure to recognize people, hyperactivity, or restlessness, especially in children
  15. unusual drowsiness, tiredness, or weakness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.
