Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bleeding
  2. hives
  3. persistent non-healing sore
  4. pink growth
  5. reddish patch or irritated area
  6. scabbing
  7. shiny bump
  8. spots on your skin resembling a blister or pimple
  9. stinging, burning, pain, redness, swelling, scaling, crusting, lightening or darkening of the skin, itching, cracking, crusting, or dryness of the skin at the application site
  10. tenderness
  11. white, yellow or waxy scar-like area

Less common

  1. Bleeding during lesion preparation
  2. blistering or irritation of the skin
  3. flaking, pain, peeling, itching rash, breaking down of the skin

Incidence not known

  1. Difficulty seeing at night
  2. double vision
  3. increased sensitivity of the eyes to sunlight
  4. loss of memory
  5. problems with memory
  6. red, sore eyes
  7. seeing double
  8. swelling of the eyelids

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles,” stinging, or tingling feelings
  2. darkening or lightening of the treated skin
  3. skin sore
  4. small, red, raised, itchy bumps
  5. swelling of the skin

Less common

  1. Cough
  2. fever
  3. headache
  4. oozing
  5. open sore on the skin
  6. pain
  7. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  8. pus filled blister or pimple
  9. raw skin
  10. stuffy or runny nose
  11. tenderness
  12. tightness of the chest
  13. troubled breathing

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
