Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.131 studies in Surgery (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. The Effects of Prophylactic Limited Palmar Fasciectomy on Surgical Outcomes and Scarring Rochester, Minn. Research is instrumental for improving medical care and the patient experience. Finding new surgical techniques can create better outcomes and minimize recovery time and complications for patients. Some patients undergoing trigger finger surgery with a pre-existing Dupuytren's cord may develop a thickened surgical scar after surgery, which can cause discomfort, difficulty with moving or using, and other complications in the affected finger(s) or hand. The investigator is investigating a surgical technique to minimize these potential complications and scarring after surgery. Subjects are being asked to take part in this research study because they have been diagnosed with trigger finger and pretendinous Dupuytren's cord and have decided to undergo surgery rather than try medical treatment. Human Blood and Tissues Repository for Neuroscience Research Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to collect adult human blood, cerebrospinal fluid, brain, and spine tissues/fluids at time of surgery in order to conduct future studies of the cellular mechanisms of tissue invasion utilized by brain and spine tumors of the central nervous system (CNS). A Study to Assess Outcomes Based on Different Surgical Approaches to Minimally-invasive Gallbladder Surgery Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of patients who had standard laparoscopic port placement compared to non-standard port placement to determine any difference in occurrence of post-operative hernia and operative complications. A Registry For The Collection And Maintenance Of Biological Specimens For Breast Cancer Research Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this registry is to collect and maintain samples of breast tissue from women and men undergoing surgery for a breast related concern at Mayo Clinic Rochester, to create a biospecimen resource for the study of benign and cancerous breast conditions. ARTIST: Aortic Regurgitation Trial Investigating Surgery Versus Trilogy™ Rochester, Minn. To demonstrate non-inferiority of the Trilogy Transcatheter Heart Valve (THV) System compared with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for treatment of subjects with clinically significant native aortic regurgitation (AR) Surgeons As High-Performance Athletes Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this prospective observational study is to gather and evaluate the evidence for attending surgeons’ technical and tactical abilities and cognitive workload, during cardiac surgery. Cutaneous Tissue Using Ex Vivo Fluorescence Confocal Microscopy Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study, as a proof-of-concept, is to investigate whether ex vivo fluorescence microscopy can provide adequate visualization of cutaneous tissue for determination of non-melanoma skin cancer tumor presence in a sample of up to 250 residual skin specimens. Multi-Center Prospective Validation Study of VTE Risk Prediction Tool in Trauma Patients Rochester, Minn. Almost one-half million people suffer venous thromboembolism annually in the United States, and one-third die from this disease. Massive bleeding from injury accounts for half of early deaths after trauma. This study aims to prevent the deaths and suffering associated with venous thromboembolism and bleeding by identifying the individual person at high risk of these complications in order to take preventive measures. A Study to Establish a Living Breast Organoid Biobank for Translational Research Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. Researchers at Mayo Clinic are developing a Biobank of adult stem cell-rich breast organoids, a new research resource to facilitate normal and cancer stem cell research. Subjects in the Biobank will provide samples of excess breast tissue, complete a health questionnaire, and allow access to medical records now and in the future. The Biobank serves as a library for researchers; instead of having to look for volunteers for each new project, researchers can use samples from the Biobank as well as share information already collected. Thoracotomy Versus Thoracoscopic Management Of Pulmonary Metastases In Patients With Osteosarcoma Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine if open surgical resection is superior to thoracoscopic resection for thoracic event-free survival (tEFS) in patients with resectable oligometastatic pulmonary osteosarcoma. Furthermore, to determine if open surgical resection is superior to thoracoscopy for event free survival (EFS), for overall survival (OS), and if thoracoscopy is superior to open surgical resection for postoperative pain interference in patients with resectable oligometastatic pulmonary osteosarcoma. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
