Jonathan Soodi Massoud's experience: an entire team that you see for your care

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Jonathan Massoud, Mayo Clinic patient, Mayo Clinic in Florida: I am a patient at Mayo Clinic. I had the gastric sleeve done. I got a kidney transplant -- 2012. My kidneys had failed when I was 18, 19 -- or starting to fail. I was very overweight. It was necessary to have done because having a healthy weight meant not having to take quite as many medications. Just a lot of benefits. So I decided to do it.

It took about three weeks to recover from the surgery and then I was back to eating much smaller-portioned meals, getting full faster, and I was able to make healthier choices because the healthier choices that I chose filled me up instead of choosing healthy foods and then going and eating unhealthy, to continue filling my stomach because I was still hungry. That wasn't happening anymore.

I chose Mayo because I had care other facilities, and the contrast was night and day. Mayo Clinic, you have a team, an entire team that you see for your care. And that's remarkable. One person after another comes in, they tell you what they're there for. They tell you how they're going to be helping you that day. And you just feel like you're really being taken care of. They help you build a strong commitment to weight loss that you can control. And if you do it at Mayo, it will be done right, and you'll be glad you did.
