Cardiovascular Medicine care and COVID-19

Paul Friedman, M.D., Chair, Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic: Hello, I'm Dr. Paul Friedman, chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic. One of the issues, particularly for people with heart disease, is the fact that with heart disease is an increased risk of potential problems with infection and it's been harder to see your doctor.

We've taken several steps now to make it easier to get an evaluation for your heart health whether you're an established Mayo Clinic patient, or whether you'd be new to us. If you're worried about your heart health, you can call and arrange for a telephone consultation. Alternatively, using an iPad or a computer, you can have a face-to-face visit with a heart expert to review your heart health. Alternatively, we've now taken steps to enable face-to-face in-person visits. Those include enhanced cleaning, enhanced screening, including the COVID test when needed, as well as a policy of universal masking to ensure the safety of everyone on our campus.

And if at any time you're having new or worsening chest pain or chest pressure or difficulty breathing, emergency departments have been prepared to see you in this COVID environment and to do so in a safe manner. If you do elect to come here, arrangements can be made by calling ahead of time with specific concierge support for hotel and food arrangements.

So if you have heart concerns, we're here to help. We wish you all the best for you and your family's health and safety. Thank you.

Why choose Mayo Clinic for cardiovascular care

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Kevin Landolfo, M.D., Cardiovascular Surgery, Mayo Clinic: Everyone that you will meet is dedicated to one pursuit and that is to focus on the needs of the patient and their family.

Joseph A. Dearani, M.D., Cardiovascular Surgery, Mayo Clinic: One of the other things that really separates Mayo is the coordinated care at the physician level between Mayo and the home physician. The dialogue is almost seamless and I think it's really appreciated by the home physicians and patients and families.

Charanjit S. Rihal, M.D., Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic: We strive to ensure that the latest developments and the most innovative technologies are available for patients and many of these are developed here.

Amy W. Pollak, M.D., Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic: Physicians that work at Mayo are so curious, so interested to be able to find answers to different questions.

Rekha Mankad, M.D., Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic: They walk away with more knowledge and an understanding of what's happening with them specifically that I think is very unique.

Win Shen, M.D., Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic: My major job is to ensure that I take care of the patient.
