Nicholas R. Oblizajek, M.D.

Nicholas R. Oblizajek, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in the evaluation and management of complex gastrointestinal motility disorders, with a clinical focus on improving digestive health, daily function, and quality of life for patients. His practice integrates advanced diagnostic testing with evidence-based treatment strategies for conditions such as chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, gastroparesis, and functional bowel disorders.

Consistent with Mayo Clinic’s collaborative model of care, Dr. Oblizajek partners with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive, patient-centered evaluation and treatment. He works with medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical care and scholarly projects. He is board-certified lin Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and completed additional fellowship training in motility at Mayo Clinic.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Oblizajek enjoys staying active through table tennis, volleyball, pickleball, and tennis. He is also an avid Detroit Lions fan and enjoys opportunities to attend games in person.

Dr. Oblizazek provides individualized care for patients with gastrointestinal motility conditions, offering expertise in both diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic management. His clinical interests are:

• Constipation: Evaluation and treatment of normal-transit constipation, slow-transit constipation, and pelvic floor dysfunction-related constipation.
• Fecal incontinence: Comprehensive assessment and individualized management strategies to improve bowel control and quality of life.
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Diagnosis and management of functional bowel disorders, with an emphasis on symptom control and individualized care.
• Gastroparesis: Advanced evaluation and management of delayed gastric emptying and related motility disorders.
• Functional dyspepsia: Targeted diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for upper gastrointestinal discomfort and related symptoms.
• Procedural Expertise - Upper and lower endoscopy: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with biopsy, PEG tube or nasojejunal tube placement, and colonoscopy with polypectomy or decompression tube placement.
• Motility testing: High-resolution anorectal manometry and balloon expulsion testing for evaluation of pelvic floor disorders.
• Breath testing: Evaluation for maldigestion syndromes and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
