Biographical summary
Sebastian Fernandez-Bussy is an interventional pulmonologist in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat lung cancer, asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
His clinical focus includes:
- Advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, airway stents
- Lung cancer staging and diagnosis, endobronchial ultrasound and navigation bronchoscopy
- Endobronchial valves for endoscopic lung volume reduction
- Bronchoscopic therapy for benign airway stenosis
- Tracheobronchomalacia multidisciplinary treatment
- Pleural procedures, tunneled pleural catheters, medical thorascopy
- Participates in several research projects including a phase 1 trial on a new device for bronchoscopic treatment for chronic bronchitis
Dr. Fernandez-Bussy speaks English and Spanish and received his medical degree from Salvador University School of Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He went on to complete his training in interventional pulmonology at Thoraxklinik in Germany, and soon after was certified by the American Association of Bronchoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP).
He was the director of the only interventional pulmonology fellowship in Latin America, and has aided in the development of the subspecialty. He has trained in many centers around the world, including the Harvard School of Public Health, and has strong international connections. He strives to provide personalized care for each of his patients.
Dr. Fernandez-Bussy enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife have an 18-year-old daughter, a 14-year-old son and a 9-year-old son. In their free time, they love to watch their children play soccer.
