Mayo Clinic healthcare professionals and scientists study ways to improve care for people with digestive system conditions. This research includes inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Researchers in the Enteric Neuroscience Program at each Mayo Clinic campus study how the nerves and muscles of the gastrointestinal tract work.

Mayo Clinic research teams work with specialists in oncology, pediatric hematology/oncology, and gastroenterology and hepatology. This team-based research helps support care for people who have calprotectin testing as part of diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring or follow-up.
