钙化有时意味着乳腺癌。但大多数钙化由非癌性（即良性）病症所致。

可能的乳房钙化原因包括：

  1. 乳腺癌
  2. 乳腺囊肿
  3. 细胞分泌物或碎片。
  4. 导管原位癌 (DCIS)
  5. 纤维腺瘤
  6. 纤维囊性乳腺变化，即钙乳。
  7. 乳腺导管扩张症
  8. 乳房损伤或手术，即脂肪坏死。
  9. 癌症的放射疗法。
  10. 皮肤钙化（即真皮钙化）或血管钙化。

除臭剂、乳膏或粉末等产品可能含有在乳腺 X 线摄影中显示为钙化的物质。这些物质使其更难以明确钙化是否由癌症所致。因此，请勿在乳腺 X 线摄影前在皮肤上涂抹任何产品。
