研究

Mayo Clinic researchers are studying Li-Fraumeni syndrome and other inherited cancer conditions to improve genetic testing, cancer detection and prevention. Recent Mayo Clinic research has examined mosaic Li-Fraumeni syndrome. This includes how testing different tissues may help show if a TP53 gene change is present in many parts of the body or is limited to blood cells. Mayo Clinic researchers also study rare genetic conditions through Clinical Genomics and collect donated samples and health information in biobanks to better understand how genes affect health and cancer risk.

Researchers also are studying how cancers may begin in people with inherited cancer risk. For example, Mayo Clinic researchers used cells donated by a patient with another inherited cancer condition, as well as Li-Fraumeni syndrome, to look for very early changes in fallopian tube cells that might lead to ovarian cancer. A Mayo Clinic living fallopian tube biobank includes samples from people with inherited cancer-related gene changes and is being used to study earlier cancer detection and ways to lower cancer risk.
