Daniel (Dan) S. Childs, M.D., is a medical oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. As a clinician and physician investigator, Dr. Childs specializes in the care of patients with genitourinary cancers (including prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, and certain rarer cancers). He works collaboratively in a large, multidisciplinary team of urologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine physicians to deliver state-of-the-art cancer care.

To better support and empower his patients, Dr. Childs is also actively involved in scientific research. He has developed a research program that focuses on improving the quality of life and well-being of cancer survivors through: 1) the development of more effective and better tolerated cancer therapies, and 2) improved recognition, understanding, and management of the symptoms that are caused by cancer and/or its treatments. Dr. Childs has a track record of conducting high impact clinical research, which has received national and international recognition. At an early stage in his career, he has developed multiple clinical trials that are opening at institutions around the country. His research has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed publications, and he has written book chapters on the optimal management of supportive care issues. His team's overarching goal is to minimize the troublesome side effects of treatment, which too often limit a person's function, freedom, or detract from quality time that should be enjoyed with friends and family.

Dr. Childs commonly works with oncology fellows, residents, and medical students from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. During his tenure at Mayo Clinic, he has been recognized with multiple teaching awards.
