Robert C. Albright, Jr., D.O.

Robert C. Albright, Jr., D.O., is a consultant in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a joint appointment in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Albright is the immediate past Regional Vice President and Regional Lead Physician of Mayo Clinic Health System — Southeast Minnesota and co-chair of the Mayo Clinic Health System's CPC. He served as Division Chair for Nephrology and Hypertension Mayo Clinic Rochester 2014-2021 and was elected and served his term as the President of the voting and consulting staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester 2018-2020. He joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1998 and holds the academic rank of Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Albright earned his B.S. in biology at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and his D.O. at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Community Hospital of Lancaster, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology and critical care at Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Albright's research focuses on patient-focused health care delivery systems, acute renal failure, protein metabolism in renal disease, and end-stage renal disease therapy, as well as acid-based disorders and their impact on these issues. He is frequently invited to give presentations on his research, and he has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, abstracts and other written publications.

In addition to his clinical and research activities, Dr. Albright is active in education and has provided mentorship to many residents, students, and nephrology and critical care fellows, among others. He is consistently recognized as one of the highest-rated educators within the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and he is a member of the Mayo Fellow's Association Teaching Hall of Fame. He has also been recognized with the Top Performing Provider Patient Experience Award.

His administrative duties have included Division Chair of Nephrology and HTN Mayo Clinic Rochester 2015-2021, Elected as President of the Voting and Consulting staff of Mayo Clinic Rochester 2019, and Regional Vice President, Mayo Clinic Health System Southeast MN, 2020-2025.  He served as Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) Clinical Practice Committee Co-Chair and the MCHS MN Vice Chair of the Executive Operating team 2020-2025. He is a board member of the Mayo Clinic ACO, is the faculty mentor for the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine's Rural Health interest group and represents the Mayo Clinic at the Mayo Clinic Academic Promotions committee.

Dr. Albright's professional memberships include the American Society of Nephrology, (FASN), International Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, and Society of Critical Care Medicine.
