Share Doximity Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Print details The Alcoholic Liver Disease/Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Index (ANI) This calculator is intended for use by health care providers. The results should not be used alone to determine medical treatment. This tool is a statistical model and is not a substitute for an individual treatment plan developed by a health care provider with personal knowledge of a specific patient. Factors such as medical history and the health care provider’s experience, knowledge, and training must also be considered. Results should be discussed with patients when presenting prognoses or treatment recommendations. The ANI is a novel scoring system that is highly accurate in distinguishing alcoholic liver disease (ALD) from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The ANI may be a useful tool for the frequent clinical scenarios in which it is useful to ascertain an alcohol basis for steatohepatitic liver injury. Short short-term abstinence does not significantly affect the performance characteristics of the ANI therefore the ANI is unlikely to be useful in detecting surreptious alcohol consumption in patients with known ALD. Other liver diseases should first be excluded before utilizing the ANI. The ANI is most accurate when the MELD Score is below 20. Please enter values and press Calculate ANI.
