Dr. Nicholas (Nick) Koontz is a diagnostic neuroradiologist with clinical and research expertise in head & neck imaging, as well as imaging-guided procedures/interventions of the spine and head & neck. His research interests also include medical education and outcomes-based education research, and he is a charter member of the Radiology Residency Education Research Alliance (RRERA). Dr. Koontz lectures nationally and internationally on topics of head & neck imaging and medical education. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology with subspecialty certification in neuroradiology. He completed medical school, transitional year residency, and diagnostic radiology residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by a 2-year neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Utah. Dr. Koontz was on faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine for 8-1/2 years, where he was a tenured Associate Professor of Radiology & Imaging Sciences with additional appointment in the Department of Otolaryngology — Head & Neck Surgery. He joined Mayo Clinic Arizona in 2024.
