J. Wells Askew, M.D., is a board-certified cardiologist with subspecialty certifications in cardiovascular imaging including nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. He attended University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine and obtained specialty training in internal medicine, cardiology, and advance cardiac imaging at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, and in Rochester, Minnesota.

  • Evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic ischemic heart disease
  • Cardiac imaging selection and interpretation for coronary artery disease assessment
  • Application of nuclear imaging in patients with ischemic heart disease, cardiac amyloidosis, and cardiac sarcoidosis

Dr. Askew is the Vice Chair of Cardiology, Clinical Practice and was previously the Chair of the Ischemic Heart Disease and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Division. He has participated in numerous departmental, institutional, and enterprise-wide ischemic heart disease clinical initiatives. He previously served as Mayo Clinic Hospital Unit Nassef Tower 5 Medical Director and Chair of the Cardiovascular Hospital Practice Subcommittee. He has been the Medical Director of the Integrated Stress Center since 2016 and previously was Director of the Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory Fellows Education Program. Mayo Clinic institutional leadership positions include having previously served as Vice Chair and then Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee from 2009 until 2014.
