Stages

Smoldering multiple myeloma does not use numbered stages such as stage 1, stage 2 or stage 3. Instead, it is classified by the risk of progression.

If a myeloma-defining event occurs, the diagnosis changes to active multiple myeloma. The care team then stages the active myeloma and creates a treatment plan.
