Psychiatry and psychology research at Mayo Clinic focuses on the development of intervention guidelines for patients with mental, addictive and emotional disorders. Mood disorders research focuses on developing a better understanding of depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and suicide and nonsuicidal self-injury.

Researchers collaborate across specialties to develop new treatments, improve clinical outcomes and identify ways to help patients and families cope with the effects of mood disorders and other mental health conditions.

Mayo researchers use the latest technology and work with genomics investigators to better define the biological basis of mood disorders, which can lead to more effective treatments.
