Biographical summary
Austin Underwood, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Sports Medicine physician who specializes in non-operative management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries. Dr. Underwood completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital System in Richmond, Virginia. After residency training, he completed an ACGME-certified Sports Medicine fellowship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Underwood has worked closely with athletes of all levels including NCAA Division I Longwood University and Texas Christian University. Additionally, he has served as a team physician for multiple high schools and provided medical coverage for major endurance events including marathons and long-distance bicycle races.
Dr. Underwood has particular interest in sports rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries, regenerative medicine techniques, and the use of ultrasound for evaluation and procedural guidance. As a former college lacrosse athlete himself, Dr. Underwood is passionate about helping athletes return to their sport and helping each patient achieve their goals.
