Shengzhen Tao, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology and board-certified medical physicist at Mayo Clinic whose work focuses on developing and translating advanced MRI and CT technologies to improve patient care. His expertise includes ultra-high-field 7T MRI, photon-counting CT, advanced image acquisition and reconstruction, and artificial intelligence-enabled imaging, with the goal of enhancing image quality, increasing diagnostic accuracy, reducing scan time and radiation dose, and expanding the clinical capabilities of medical imaging. Dr. Tao's work bridges imaging physics, engineering, and clinical medicine, transforming technical innovations into tools that support earlier disease detection, more precise diagnosis, and more effective treatment planning. His contributions have advanced high-performance MRI systems, photon-counting CT, and ultra-high-field neuroimaging, enabling more detailed visualization of brain structures, vascular abnormalities, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders where imaging plays a critical role in clinical decision-making. Through close collaboration with radiologists and clinicians, he helps integrate next-generation imaging technologies into clinical practice, strengthening diagnostic confidence and ultimately improving patient outcomes.
