Biographical summary
Dr. Archer K. Martin, M.D., is the Chair of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology with a special interest in the perioperative management of lung transplantation. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine followed by a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital. He has served as an invited Visiting Professor at University programs throughout the United States and Europe, speaking on lung transplantation anesthesiology, pulmonary hypertension, and novel utilization of mechanical circulatory support within lung transplantation. His clinical practice focuses on these same areas, and he leads the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology in providing support to these diverse service lines at Mayo Clinic Florida. He also serves in leadership roles within the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) in cardiothoracic transplantation. He serves as Co-Chair for the ISHLT Consensus Statement for the Perioperative Utilization of Extracorporeal Life Support in Lung Transplantation, leading a group of multidisciplinary colleagues from around the world to develop recommendations for best practices within this high-risk clinical area.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and National Board of Echocardiography in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography, and is currently an Associate Professor and Consultant at Mayo Clinic.
