Harmeet Malhi, M.B.B.S., is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, caring for people from the region and all around the world. Dr. Malhi specializes in diagnosing and
managing complex liver diseases, with expertise in both clinical care and advanced research in steatotic liver diseases. She serves as Vice Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and is also Professor of Medicine and Physiology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Malhi collaborates closely with patients to provide accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for a wide range of liver and gastrointestinal conditions. Her expertise includes:
- Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASH) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH): Advanced care for individuals with metabolic-related liver disease.
- Alcohol-related liver disease: Evaluation and treatment approaches for liver injury due to alcohol use.
- Liver transplantation and hepatology: Specialized care for individuals before and after liver transplantation.
- Cirrhosis and advanced liver disease: Management of complications and long-term outcomes.
- Hepatobiliary neoplasia: Care for complex bile duct and liver conditions, including cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Research and expertise
Dr. Malhi's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of liver injury and developing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for steatohepatitis and liver inflammation. She directs federally funded studies investigating metabolic liver injury and mechanisms of hepatic endoplasmic reticulum stress. Dr. Malhi has published extensively, holds editorial leadership positions in major hepatology journals, and actively mentor's future physician-scientists. She is board-certified in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
