Biographical summary
Michael G. Kattah, M.D., Ph.D., is a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), and microscopic colitis. Dr. Kattah has a particular focus on young adults transitioning from pediatric to adult GI care. He partners closely with pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians to create individualized treatment plans targeting long-term health maintenance. His practice also includes multidisciplinary care for patients with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) — induced or CAR-T-associated colitis, coordinating evaluation and treatment with Oncology.
Clinically, he offers comprehensive IBD management — diagnosis, second opinions, endoscopic assessment, therapeutic optimization, and preventive care (bone health, vaccinations, nutrition). He emphasizes shared decision-making, clear communication, and rapid access for disease flares. Board-certified in Gastroenterology, he collaborates with colorectal surgery, dermatology, rheumatology, nutrition, and pharmacy to deliver team-based care. His goal is to help each patient achieve durable remission with the fewest side effects and the best possible quality of life.
