Kirsten E. Frederiksen, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P., F.O.M.A., D.A.B.O.M., is a board-certified internal medicine and obesity medicine specialist and Medical Director of the Bariatric Center at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. With more than 25 years of experience, she provides comprehensive obesity care, with expertise in medical weight management, obesity medications, nutrition, severe and complex obesity, obesity-related complications, support for patients undergoing bariatric surgery, and management of weight regain following bariatric surgery.

Dr. Frederiksen takes a personalized, compassionate and evidence-based approach to obesity treatment, recognizing that every patient's experience with weight and health is unique. She combines medical and procedural options to develop individualized treatment plans that are realistic, supportive and responsive to each patient's needs and goals. She has extensive experience developing and leading obesity medicine programs, including serving as a program director at two major health systems and Director of Clinical Operations for a national virtual obesity medicine practice. She has also advised medical startups and holds leadership roles with the Obesity Medicine Association.

"I want my patients to know that obesity care is not one-size-fits-all," says Dr. Frederiksen. "My goal is to understand each person's experience, what matters most to them and what challenges they may be facing, then work together to develop a treatment plan that is supportive, medically sound and sustainable for their life."

At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Frederiksen is focused on advancing comprehensive, collaborative obesity care while supporting research and education in the field. Her professional interests include standards of obesity care, combined medical and procedural treatment, nutrition surrounding bariatric surgery, health care policy and complex obesity.

Dr. Frederiksen earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, an M.S. in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, and an A.B. in Biology, Pre-Med from Smith College. She completed internal medicine training at the University of Rochester and the University of Colorado and is board-certified in both internal medicine and obesity medicine.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Obesity Medicine Association and has been recognized by the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the American Medical Women's Association.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time at the beach, cheering on the Jacksonville Jaguars and spending time with family.
