Dr. Patel obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, followed by fellowship training in rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. In recognition of his contributions to clinical care and research, Dr. Patel has received several honors from the American College of Rheumatology, including the Marshall J. Schiff MD Memorial Research Award in 2024 and 2025 and the Distinguished Fellow Award in 2026.

Dr. Patel's research focuses on clinical epidemiology and healthcare delivery science, with a particular emphasis on improving outcomes for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
