Laura Suarez Pardo, M.D., is a board-certified Consultation-Liaison psychiatrist with expertise in the impact of psychiatric illness in the adjustment and trajectory of patients with chronic medical illnesses, mainly psychocardiology. She is an assistant professor of Psychiatry at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine.

Dr. Suarez Pardo obtained her medical degree from Pontifica Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. She completed psychiatry residency and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Suarez Pardo has also dedicated time in research, as a research trainee at the Cardiac Psychiatry Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, continuing Psychocardiology research during residency and fellowship, followed by completion of the Mayo Clinic Clinician-Investigator Training program.

Dr. Suarez Pardo's clinical practice focuses on the treatment of patients with medical conditions and comorbid psychiatric illnesses, with a primary focus on patients with cardiovascular disease. Her research interests include: characterization of psychological distress in patients with cardiovascular disease, development of accurate screening and diagnostic tools, psychiatric interventions to improve patients' mental and cardiovascular health and outcomes, and inclusive research that applies current psychocardiology work to ethnic, racial, and gender underrepresented populations, addressing the impact of societal and structural barriers on mental and general health.

Psychocardiology — psychosocial distress and psychiatric illness are prevalent in patients with cardiovascular disease, and evidence suggests that they can impact one's recovery from illness. Dr. Suarez Pardo is interested in examining the overlap between psychiatric illness and distress and cardiovascular disease hoping to improve adherence to treatment recommendations and lifestyle changes, quality of life, and illness outcomes.
