Imad Absah, M.D.

Imad Absah, M.D., is a professor of pediatrics and consultant in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Absah provides care for children and adolescents with a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. His clinical and academic work focus on celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and the application of artificial intelligence in pediatric digestive health. He is dedicated to improving outcomes for children through compassionate, evidence-based, and technologically advanced care.

Dr. Absah serves as fellowship program director for pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology and vice chair for diversity, inclusion, and well-being in the Department of Pediatrics. He is nationally recognized for his leadership roles in pediatric celiac disease research and guideline development and has been honored with multiple teaching and investigator awards.

Dr. Absah's research centers on advancing the understanding and treatment of pediatric celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and obesity, with an emphasis on clinical applications of artificial intelligence. He has led and collaborated on numerous clinical trials and multicenter studies, serving as principal investigator on projects supported by the Mayo Clinic, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Celiac Disease Foundation. His work has influenced practice guidelines nationally and internationally through the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and the Society for the Study of Celiac Disease.

Board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology, Dr. Absah completed his medical education at Damascus University and his pediatrics residency at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University. He completed his fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology at Mayo Clinic and continues to mentor trainees as a leader in medical education.
