Rochester schools comprise a public school system with 3 high schools, 16 elementary schools and 5 middle schools, as well as parochial, charter and private school options. Eleven higher education institutions, including the new University of Minnesota – Rochester branch, offer a range of academic programs and degrees.

• Rochester Public Schools was a recent recipient the Minnesota Council of Quality's Award in Education at the Achievement level – the highest recognition ever awarded to a school district by the Council.
• Schools have a diverse student population which reflects a variety of cultural, ethnic, language, and learning experiences—a variety that brings both richness and challenges to the teaching and learning process.
• The public schools boast a graduation rate near 90%.
• For the past 15 years, Rochester students completing the ACT exam have scored higher than state and national averages.
