1. A Study to Examine Proteins from Chronic Otitis Media Fluid Samples in Patients undergoing Myringotomy and Possibly a Tube Insertion Procedure

   Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz., Rochester, Minn.

   During myringotomy and possibly a tube insertion procedure a small amount of fluid that is being removed from the middle ear (whether or not you participate in the study) will be examined for different proteins or it may be saved and used for future research studies.

2. A Study to Develop a Vestibular and Balance Function Measure (VBFM) Tool

   The purpose of this study is develop a tool called the Vestibular and Balance Function Measure (VBFM) to evaluate vertigo, dizziness, or balance problems that affect patients; ability to perform tasks and participate in activities.

3. A Study of Factors That Predispose, Promote, and Perpetuate Post-Traumatic Dizziness

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to investigate whether recent, groundbreaking discoveries about key pathophysiologic processes that drive chronic dizziness in patients without traumatic brain injury (TBI9,10) are applicable to patients with post-mTBI vestibular disability. We expect the results of this project to have practical clinical and research applications, providing novel data for two future steps:

   The purpose of this study is to investigate if spasmotic dsyphonia (SD) patients have neurological diseases like dystonia, cervical dystonia, Parkinson’s disease more than normal population

5. Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction and Esophageal Diverticulum

   Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla.

   Patients undergoing open transcervical or endoscopic approach in which a laser or stapler is used to divide the common wall between the diverticulum and esophagus, or who are not surgical candidates but agree to follow-up.

   The purpose of this study is to investigate the epidemiologic and psychologic factors for spasmotic dsyphonia (SD).   

7. A Study to Assess Sinus Stenting to Manage Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to determine whether transverse/sigmoid sinus junction stenting reduces the risk of recurrent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension presenting with CSF leak.

   Rochester, Minn.

   Aims, purpose, or objectives:

   1) Develop hypotheses related to how the human genome and genetic variants affect hearing loss in children and adults.

   2) Understand phenotypes of hearing loss on a deeper level by combining and analyzing information from audiometric, genetic, and radiologic data.

   3) Explore genetic variants with an unknown significance to develop an understanding of their potential significance and explore other genes may influence an individual's hearing ability.

9. A Study To Identify Biomarkers In The Blood, Saliva Or Tissue For Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to identify a biomarker (or biomarkers) that is present when disease is present (i.e., at diagnosis or recurrence) and not present when disease is absent (i.e., after treatment, in HPV negative patients or in normal controls).

10. A Study to Evaluate Quality of Life Outcomes for Cholesteatoma

    Rochester, Minn.

    The purpose of this study is to determine the quality of life scores for patients that have undergone subtotal petrosectomy and ear canal closure for cholesteatoma and/or chronic otitis media utilizing two previously validated quality-of-life scales.
