Dr. Venu Nemani is a Senior Associate Consultant of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. His clinical practice includes all aspects of spine surgery, but with a special interest in treating disorders of the cervical spine, patients with spinal deformity including scoliosis, kyphosis, flatback, and patients with other complex problems of the thoracic and lumbar spine including those needing revision spine surgery.
After an undergraduate degree at Duke University, Dr. Nemani completed medical school and a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He then went on to complete a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, and subsequently spine fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University.

He has authored more than 85 peer-reviewed research articles, presented over 150 scientific studies at national and international conferences, and written more than 15 book chapters on various topics in spine surgery. He is actively involved in research to improve the outcomes and safety of surgery for adult spinal deformity, with interests in bone health optimization and in using state of the art technology to plan and optimize spinal alignment in short and long segment spine fusion procedures. Dr. Nemani is on the Spine and Bone Health Task Force of the National Spine Health Foundation, is an active member of the Cervical Spine Research Society, AO Spine, and has key leadership roles within the Scoliosis Research Society.
