Research

Mayo Clinic is an international leader in Hodgkin's lymphoma research. The Hematologic Malignancies Program conducts research related to Hodgkin's lymphoma and other blood and bone marrow cancers.

Cancer research is conducted in coordination with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. The Mayo Clinic Cancer Center receives funding from the National Cancer Institute and is designated as a comprehensive cancer center — recognition for an institution's scientific excellence and multidisciplinary resources focused on cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Areas of research include:

  • Developing and doing clinical trials for more-effective and less-toxic treatments for all forms of lymphoma
  • Developing the first genetic test to help guide the diagnosis and treatment of people with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the most common type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
  • Studying quality of life in people with lymphoma
  • Studying who is more likely to have a relapse of lymphoma and why

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is one of a handful of U.S. facilities that received a National Cancer Institute Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for lymphoma research.
