Vestibular and Balance Testing Laboratory

By Mayo Clinic Staff

Many people over age 40 experience dizziness or balance problems at some point in their life, caused by an imbalance or loss within the peripheral vestibular system. Mayo Clinic in Minnesota offers testing in the Vestibular and Balance Testing Laboratory for balance or dizziness-related problems. The following tests are conducted in the lab:

  • Posturography
  • Electronystagmography (ENG)
  • Rotary-chair testing
  • Dix-Hallpike test — This noninvasive procedure is used to determine if a person has benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo, a false sense of motion or spinning.
