Biographical summary
Dr. Zhou is board certified in Diagnostic Radiologic Physics by the American Board of Radiology. His primary research and clinical interests focus on the development, evaluation, and application of advanced MR and PET/MR imaging techniques for disease detection, diagnosis, monitoring, and management.
His work encompasses a wide range of imaging modalities, including anatomical MRI, perfusion MRI, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), BOLD functional MRI, PET, and MR spectroscopy (MRS). These techniques are applied to studies of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as abdominal, pelvic, and musculoskeletal diseases.
Dr. Zhou’s current projects involve the development of novel MRI pulse sequences — such as advanced diffusion-weighted imaging, Z-shimming, and BOLD fMRI — and the implementation of real-time parallel computing frameworks to enhance imaging performance. He is also leading the development of a quantitative MRI software package that includes tools for DSC and ASL perfusion, B1 and B0 mapping, and T1/T2 relaxation time analysis.
In addition to his research, Dr. Zhou provides essential physics support for clinical MRI and PET/MR users, overseeing routine quality assurance and scanner performance. He also collaborates closely with MRI vendors, scientists, and engineers to translate, implement, test, and evaluate emerging MRI technologies for clinical and research applications.
Recently, Dr. Zhou has developed several clinical applications integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including AI-based denoising, image reconstruction, classification, registration, and segmentation.
