Biographical summary
Luca Stocchi, M.D., MBA, serves as Chair for the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida.
His clinical interests include the treatment of diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as colorectal malignancies including colorectal cancer and young-onset colorectal cancer for individuals under the age of 50. 
Dr. Stocchi specializes in sphincter-sparing procedures including J-pouch surgery, re-operative colorectal surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.
Originally from Milan, Italy, Dr. Stocchi earned his medical degree with honors from the Facolta' di Medicina e Chirurgia, Universita' di Bologna, Italy. Most of his extensive post-graduate training took place at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he completed a general surgery residency and a fellowship in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and research fellowships in the immunology of colorectal cancer and in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery, in addition to completing an international fellowship in colon and rectal surgery.
Prior to his role at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Stocchi served as the inaugural Story-Garschina Endowed Chair in Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, where he also was a staff surgeon, professor of surgery, and head of the research section in the Department of Colorectal Surgery within the Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute.
Dr. Stocchi speaks fluent Italian, Spanish and English, and enjoys jogging, reading, traveling, and walking his dog in his free time.
