Matthew R. Starr, M.D., is an ophthalmologist, with specialty training in vitreoretinal surgery and is the current Ophthalmology residency program director. Dr. Starr is active in clinical and translational research, medical education, and patient safety/quality improvement initiatives. He provides mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows. - Expertise in management of vitreoretinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, and age-related macular degeneration
- Surgical management of complex vitreoretinal disorders relating to retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, diabetic tractional retinal detachment, and ocular trauma
- Management of dislocated crystalline and intra-ocular lenses requiring lens exchange with scleral fixation techniques
- Clinical trials focusing on surgical vitreoretinal disorders, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration
- Population based, large scale database research focused on improving real-world outcomes of vitreoretinal diseases
