Biographical summary
John V. Murray, Jr., M.D., is a board-certified neuroradiologist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, specializing in advanced imaging of the brain, spine, head and neck, and skull base. His areas of expertise include epilepsy imaging, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, pituitary disorders, stroke imaging, and advanced CT and MRI applications.
He has a particular interest in photon-counting CT, an emerging imaging technology that provides high-resolution imaging and improved visualization of complex neurologic, head and neck, and temporal bone anatomy. He is actively involved in the clinical application, research, and education surrounding photon-counting CT, with the goal of advancing diagnostic imaging and patient care.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Murray serves as CT Modality Director for Mayo Clinic in Florida and is deeply engaged in physician education, quality improvement, and peer learning. He established and leads the Neuroradiology Peer Learning Program, which promotes collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement among radiologists. He also teaches radiology residents, fellows, and medical students and has been recognized as a Distinguished Educator by the Mayo Clinic Neuroradiology Fellowship Program.
Dr. Murray's research interests include photon-counting CT, neuroradiology, head and neck imaging, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, skull base disorders, and other advanced imaging technologies, including ultra-high-field MRI. His work has been published in leading radiology journals and presented at national and international meetings.
A Florida native, Dr. Murray earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed residency and fellowship training in radiology and neuroradiology at the University of Florida.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Murray enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His interests include hiking, skiing, fishing, boating, and listening to music.
