Biographical summary
Dr. Liao earned her medical degree from Beijing Medical University in 1999, followed by her Ph.D. in Developmental Toxicology from UCLA in 2007. She completed her residency at University of California
San Diego Health System and a fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She joined the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) in 2018 as an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. In 2025, she joined the Mayo Clinic Arizona as a Senior Associate Consultant, while continuing as Adjunct Faculty at URMC. Her clinical and research interests center on gastrointestinal and liver pathology, with particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), appendiceal pathology, medical liver diseases, and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. An active researcher and dedicated educator, Dr. Liao has published extensively in Pathology field. She is an active member of both USCAP and the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS). Additionally, she contributes to the field as an Editor for PathologyOutlines.com, overseeing the Anus chapter.
