Patrick B. Garvey, M.D., M.B.A.

Patrick B. Garvey, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S., is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and Chair of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He specializes in complex oncologic reconstruction, with particular expertise in head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, advanced microsurgery, nerve reconstruction, and virtual surgical planning.

Dr. Garvey completed his general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and his plastic surgery residency at the University of Virginia, followed by a fellowship in microvascular reconstructive surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He previously served on faculty at MD Anderson for more than 18 years, where he trained over 150 residents and fellows and built a high-volume reconstructive practice focused on multidisciplinary cancer care.

His clinical practice emphasizes restoring form and function after cancer treatment through advanced free flap surgery and evidence-based perioperative care. Dr. Garvey has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has led national clinical trials, including the Mentor ATHENA study supporting FDA approval of larger-volume breast implants for reconstruction. He earned an Executive MBA from Rice University, complementing his clinical expertise with formal training in healthcare operations, finance, and strategy.
