Biographical summary
Emrys Fonseca, M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O., (MD), M.S., is a board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty board-certification in consultation-liaison psychiatry. Within the Behavioral Medicine Practice (BMP), they meet with individuals navigating a variety of non-psychiatric medical diagnoses, with a primary focus on functional neurological disorders and cancer. Dr. Fonseca also practices within the Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic (TISCC) providing gender-affirming psychiatric care.
Dr. Fonseca obtained their medical degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway. They completed psychiatry residency at Trinity Health in Livonia, MI, followed by Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Fonseca also has a master’s degree in counseling psychology and completed a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy. They are currently pursuing a postdoctoral master’s in clinical and translational science.
Drawing on their unique background, Dr. Fonseca takes an evidence-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach to treatment. They strive to create a supportive space where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered, tailoring care to each individual's unique experiences, goals, and strengths. At this time, their practice is primarily consultative in nature, with limited availability for longitudinal follow-up.
