Biographical summary
Dr. Albert Attia is a board-certified radiation oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, specializing in precision radiation therapy for patients with prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and other genitourinary malignancies. He also has expertise in the use of low-dose radiation therapy for osteoarthritis, providing evidence-based treatment options for select patients with chronic joint pain.
Dr. Attia delivers personalized, multidisciplinary cancer care by collaborating closely with medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and other specialists to develop individualized treatment plans. His expertise includes intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and proton therapy. These advanced radiation techniques allow for highly precise treatment that targets tumors while minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues.
"My approach is to treat the person, not just the cancer," says Dr. Attia. "By combining the latest advances in radiation therapy with close collaboration across specialties, we can create a treatment plan that's tailored to each patient's diagnosis, goals and quality of life."
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Attia is committed to advancing radiation oncology through research focused on improving cancer outcomes, reducing treatment-related side effects and expanding the use of innovative radiation technologies. His work supports the development of more precise, patient-centered therapies that improve both the effectiveness of treatment and long-term quality of life.
Dr. Attia is also a dedicated educator and mentor who is actively involved in resident training at Mayo Clinic and plays an active role in resident education at the national level.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Attia enjoys going to the beach and watching sports with his family.
