Mayo Employee Resource Groups (MERGs)

Open to all Mayo Clinic staff, Mayo Employee Resource Groups (MERGs) celebrate, support and encourage belonging. Mayo Clinic provides financial and administrative support and resources to ensure each group creates a safe, supportive space for employees seeking community and who share common interests. Every MERG also has an executive sponsor, who serves as a mentor and advocate for the group's programs and activities.

Arizona

African Descendants MERG strives to be a strategic partner to accomplish Mayo Clinic's mission and vision through the understanding and inclusion of African descendant employees. It aims to serve as a catalyst to enhance the professional and personal development of its members and to engage in community outreach.
Asian Connection MERG focuses on empowering and interconnecting the Asian culture within Mayo Clinic and the community through education, cultural awareness and service.
Disability MERG recognizes that not every disability is visible and advocates for eliminating barriers to full participation in Mayo Clinic activities and services for patients and employees.
The eMERGing Leaders MERG connects new and aspiring leaders to each other, Mayo Clinic and the broader Phoenix community. The MERG helps develop technical and leadership skills within our membership to meet Mayo Clinic's current and future needs for talent and personal goals.
The Global MERG seeks to create an environment of global health awareness and acceptance, ultimately leading to greater cultural humility and promotion of health equity. The Global MERG provides a support network of colleagues who are actively involved in, or voice interest in, global health initiatives and opportunities through current Mayo Clinic efforts abroad, as well as domestic.
Creates an inclusive community that connects the needs and interests of women in healthcare. Facilitates the professional growth of employees by offering networking, informal mentoring and career development resources, while breaking down barriers, addressing unconscious bias, and maximizing the engagement and value of women at Mayo Clinic.
The HOPE BERG seeks to create a community of working Mayo Clinic women, including aspiring and current mothers, fathers, and nontraditional parents, to promote wellness and joy, encourage one another, share resources and lessons learned, and more! HOPE MERG recognizes that family looks different for everyone and can be joyous, tender and challenging.
The India MERG focuses on fostering a deeper understanding of the culture, diversity and contributions of Mayo Clinic employees and patients of Indian origin.
The Latinos MERG supports the Hispanic population through community outreach, cultural events, employee engagement and development activities. Aims to align with strategic goals of belonging at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
The LGBTI+ MERG serves as a resource to Mayo Clinic employees, patients and the community to promote awareness, education, support, advocacy and a safe environment.
The SIP MERG seeks to promote, educate and recognize Indigenous history and celebrate its rich traditions and culture in support of Indigenous Mayo employees, allies and patients. SIP MERG strives to serve as Mayo Clinic ambassador to provide a welcoming environment for employees and to support Mayo Clinic staff who welcomes Native American patients. Aims to provide opportunities for employee engagement in community partnerships and outreach and welcomes all Indigenous employees and allies to join in this cause.
Through education, assistance and guidance, the Yellow Ribbon Veteran MERG engages Mayo Clinic military members, patients, veterans and family members. Leverages the collective knowledge of all Mayo veterans to shape policy and improve patient care.

Florida

ALMA MERG is focused on providing a platform for employees who share a common interest and passion for the Latino culture and heritage and to better serve and meet the needs of Mayo Clinic in Florida's diverse patients and employees. This desired outcome can be achieved by offering support in areas of cultural awareness, professional development, leadership exposure, coaching and mentorship, and recruitment and retention efforts.
The mission of the Asian Fusion MERG is to enhance awareness of the diverse Asian cultures through both employee events and service opportunities with patients and the community. One goal is to share the diverse Asian cultures with colleagues, helping Asian employees adapt to and feel fully included in the Mayo Clinic culture. Another goal is to help make patients and visitors feel more comfortable during their visits by connecting them with Asian resources in the community.
The Balkan MERG's mission is to be a resource for Mayo Clinic employees who share a common interest and passion for Balkan culture and heritage. The MERG aims to promote workforce belonging and to better serve and meet the needs of Mayo Clinic's diverse patients and employees. For inclusivity purposes, this MERG helps represent patients and employees with connections to or interest in the cultures of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey. Through shared experiences and cultural celebration, the group aims to foster a welcoming environment for all.
The mission of the Black Heritage MERG is to meet the needs of the African Descendants MERG employees. The goals include improving cultural awareness, enhancing professional development, coaching and mentoring employees, connecting with new employees, and encouraging professional and social networking, while also expanding outreach in the Black community.
The Disability MERG seeks to cultivate an environment of belonging for staff with disabilities by identifying and recommending appropriate professional development, assistive technologies, reasonable accommodations and social support systems. The Disability MERG advocates for the development of institutional and organizational changes, ranging from the physical environment and staff education to inspiring staff members of all abilities to promote their health, wellness and well-being.
The purpose of the FRESH MERG is to be a resource for Mayo Clinic employees who are parents (biological, adopted, foster, other) or caregivers of school-age children, which encompasses infancy through high school. FRESH MERG does this by sharing resources, building internal and supportive networks and relationships, and strategically leveraging Mayo Clinic's offerings related to children, including pediatric health services and specialty care areas.
The Global Health MERG is a platform to help generate an environment of global health awareness. This includes education on cultural competency and ethical values, while promoting the exchange of knowledge with healthcare professionals in low-resourced settings to better serve patients around the world.
The goal of the GLOW MERG is to promote, educate and empower women within Mayo Clinic. An objective is to increase leadership representation of women and to provide comprehensive education and training. GLOW MERG contributes to Mayo Clinic's strategic goals by breaking down barriers, addressing unconscious bias and increasing the engagement of women at Mayo Clinic. GLOW MERG strives to be an inclusive group of all genders throughout Mayo Clinic.
The purpose of the Influence, Inspiration and Growth (IIG) MERG is to provide an inclusive community that joins the interests and needs of aspiring and new leaders in healthcare. This includes fostering the growth and development of members at Mayo Clinic by equipping them with the proper tools to become higher functioning and higher level leaders.
The Jewish Heritage MERG at Mayo Clinic in Florida is intended to support all staff, including Jewish employees and those interested in Judaism as a culture. A goal of this MERG is to help employees with Jewish backgrounds, culture or heritage feel a sense of belonging, connection and community at Mayo Clinic. The Jewish Heritage MERG is founded on culture and history, distinctly different than strictly a religion.
The LGBTI+ MERG works to create a positive environment for all Mayo Clinic patients and employees who may identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or a combination, and allies. Outcomes include creating a more inclusive workplace and community for LGBTI+ employees and informing leadership with actionable information on the unique needs and experiences of the LGBTI+ community.
The purpose of the Military Appreciation MERG is to support the needs of Mayo Clinic patients and employees who have a current or historical connection to, or appreciation of, the U.S. Armed Services. The Military Appreciation MERG functions as a resource for Mayo Clinic staff, their families, patients and the community to provide an inclusive environment, bridging interests and developing common ground between civilian and military cultures by leveraging collective experiences.

Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS)

CHANGE MERG fosters belonging, safety and inclusivity for Hmong employees and patients by promoting awareness of Hmong history and culture. The Change MERG works to reduce barriers in healthcare through mentorship, advocacy and community engagement.
SIP MERG promotes Indigenous history, culture and traditions while supporting Indigenous employees, allies and patients. The SIP MERG serves as ambassador to create welcoming environments and meaningful community partnerships.
The eMERGing Leaders MERG connects aspiring leaders with one another and with their communities, offering opportunities to build leadership skills and professional growth aligned with Mayo Clinic Health System's talent needs.
GLOW MERG empowers women at Mayo Clinic through networking, mentorship and professional development while addressing bias, removing barriers and fostering leadership opportunities for all staff.
