Biographical summary
Dr. Brinkman is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. His clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive and open approaches to complex shoulder, knee, and hip conditions, including shoulder replacement, tendon repair, cartilage restoration, ligament reconstruction, and hip preservation surgery.
Dr. Brinkman, an Arizona native, earned his medical degree cum laude from Creighton University School of Medicine after completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at Arizona State University's Barrett Honors College. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Mayo Clinic Hospital and a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush University in Chicago. There, he served as an assistant team physician for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and DePaul Athletics, training under internationally renowned faculty.
Dr. Brinkman maintains an active research portfolio focused on clinical outcomes and surgical techniques in sports medicine. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is committed to advancing sports medicine and hip preservation care at Mayo Clinic Arizona.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Brinkman enjoys traveling, maintaining an active lifestyle with his wife, Kristi, and spending time with their son.
