Biographical summary
Janet Vittone, M.D., F.A.C.P., is an assistant professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and a physician in General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She focuses on geriatric
medicine and executive health.
Dr. Vittone earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. She completed her internal medicine residency and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Johns Hopkins. Her research has included hormone replacement in older adults, sarcopenia, which is muscle loss that can happen with aging, and the benefits of exercise.
After joining Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 1994, Dr. Vittone started a senior health care program for residents at Charter House, a continuing care retirement community. She served as medical director at Charter House and made home visits for patients in Rochester.
For more than three decades, Dr. Vittone has taught Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine students and mentored many learners who later went on to practice at Mayo Clinic and other academic medical centers.
Dr. Vittone received the Karis Award for compassionate patient care and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. She also has received high ratings from patients who say they would recommend her care.
